Once you are up to full planing conditions both helm and
crew need to be flat out and low on the wire. This builds
speed and apparent wind to allow you to sail low fast angles.
Keep helm and crew weight close together
with feet close together to maximise leverage. Trim the
weight fore and aft to keep the bow just skimming the water.
Keep the boat flat by steering. Don’t
play the main. Bear away if you heel or head up if the boat
comes to windward. Only come off the wire or bend your legs
if you hit a big lull.
Set the mainsail so it is just over the
quarter of the boat. The kicker should be tensioned enough
to hold the leach. No cunningham is needed. The crew concentrates
on just curling the luff of the kite.
