The Hoist – Action 5

Key points:

  • Keep the boat flat and steady for the hoist
  • Crew sets the jib correctly for downwind
  • If the nose starts to dive then sheet the main back in

Helm

Keep the boat steady as the crew jumps into the boat. If possible stay on the wire but keep your weight in as much as possible so you can get a deep hoist.

Let the main right out to keep maximum speed. If the nose starts to go down then sheet the main back on to reduce the forwards force.

Crew

Once the helm can balance the boat on their own move into the boat. Don’t move too early and allow leeward heel.

Set the jib so it’s in the correct position for the downwind leg.
