Key points:

  • Trim the bow down so the transom doesn’t dig in
  • Keep the sails twisted for speed and acceleration
  • Helm goes high on the wire to make movement easier to balance the boat flat

Trim the boat bow down. Try to keep the transom out of the water so that drag is reduced. The boat should be steered accurately and smoothly to the jib tell tales. Try to maintain speed by keeping the sails well twisted.

Helm

If you need to trapeze then pull your trapeze adjusters up high. This makes it a lot easier to move smoothly in and out. Try to keep the boat as flat as possible by using your body weight.

You should either be sat or trapezing right up by the shroud to lift the transom. Only move back from here to stop waves coming over the bow.

Crew

Sit in the bow facing backwards. Be careful not to sit on the jib sheets or distort the jib. Keep low so as to reduce windage and don’t obstruct the air flow through the jib slot. This can be an uncomfortable position after a while!
