The Tack – Action 6

Key points:

  • Focus on accurate steering onto the wind coming out of tack and keep sails eased

Helm

As you stand up on the new side rotate your body forward.

Slide your hand back out along the tiller extension behind your back.

Don’t pull the mainsheet back in at this point as it will stop the turn.

Your focus should be on the jib and steering the boat accurately out of the tack with the jib tell tales flying perfectly. Notice the rudder is almost central again.

Crew

You need to now sheet the jib in but not all the way. Leave it eased slightly to let the boat accelerate.

Your new front hand should now have grabbed the trapeze handle.
